Today’s recipe is amazing vegan lentil burgers that taste like regular burger patties but are healthier and meatless!!

Even if you don’t like vegan food, you’ll love these burgers.

Preparation: 30 mins

To cook: 1 hour

Level: Easy

Serves: 7

Ingredients

  • FOR THE BURGER PATTIES:
  • 1 cup Uncooked brown/green lentils
  • 3 cups Water
  • 1 whole Carrot
  • ½ whole Red onion
  • ⅔ cups Breadcrumbs
  • ⅔ cups Oatmeal
  • 1 teaspoon Soya sauce
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon Black pepper
  • FOR THE BURGERS:
  • 7 whole hamburger buns
  • 2 whole Tomatoes
  • 1 whole purple onion
  • 7 sheets Salad
  • 7 slices vegan cheese

Preparation

Add the lentils, water and salt to a saucepan and bring to a boil. Cook over medium heat for about 45 minutes or until no water remains.

While the lentils cook, prepare a large mixing bowl and add the breadcrumbs and oatmeal. Stir well and set aside.

In a large saucepan, add olive oil, diced carrots, onion and pepper. Cook over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes. Once cooked, transfer it to the bowl with the dry ingredients (breadcrumbs and lentils). Mix everything well and set aside.

When the lentils are cooked, transfer 2/3 of the cooked lentils to the food processor and pulse several times until they become a puree. Then add the puree and 1/3 of the unprocessed lentils to the bowl with the rest of the ingredients. Add soy sauce and stir until combined. Use your hands to form patties. This mixture will give you 7 large patties (about 3 inches).

Burger patties can be fried with a little olive oil for 2-3 minutes on each side, or baked for about 15 minutes. Choose the option that suits you best. We pan-fried ours.

Serve and enjoy!
