These festive heart shaped treats were a huge hit with my young girls. So if you’re looking for some Valentine’s Day fun, whip up a batch of these easy no-bake treats to share with family and friends.

Preparation: 25 minutes

Cook: 10 minutes

Level: Easy

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons Butter
  • 4 cups Miniature Marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
  • 3 packages (6 oz. size) Candy Melts in Valentine’s Day inspired colors
  • 2 packages (2oz size)

Preparation

Line a cookie sheet or tray with a piece of aluminum foil sprayed with butter-flavored cooking spray or use a silicone mat so you have a flat, nonstick surface to shape your treats.

In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Add marshmallows and microwave for 1 minute. Combine the melted marshmallows and butter and stir in the Rice Krispies, 2 cups at a time, stirring well to ensure they are all evenly coated in the marshmallow mixture.

Take a 3 1/2 inch heart shaped cookie cutter and spray the inside with butter flavored cooking spray. Drop enough Rice Krispie candy into the cookie cutter to fill it to the top. Use a spatula to level the top of the heart. Gently lift the cookie cutter and allow the heart-shaped treat to cool and firm up. Keep working until you have done all your hearts.

Now it’s time for the fun part: decorating the hearts. Choose three different colors of fondant candy, which you can find at the craft store. These candy wafers are easy to work with because they aren’t as finicky as chocolate.

Prepare 3 small microwave-safe bowls and pour each color into a separate bowl. Place each bowl in the microwave on normal power for 1 minute, then stir and continue to microwave for only 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between until just melted. You don’t want to overheat it. Use a separate spatula or butter knife to spread a smooth layer of candy on top of each heart. Don’t worry if the melted candy gets cold as you work. You can reheat it for 20-30 seconds remelt it if needed.

If you want to add writing or drizzles of other colored candies on top, put melted candies in a plastic piping bag and use a round tip or simply cut a small hole in the tip. The piping bag makes decorating easy. Be creative with your decorations! Finally, for even more fun, add some colorful nuggets.
