Hot corn is not something most people think of making at home. I assumed it was because it was hard to do, but no! Treat yourself to this sweet and savory snack whenever you want, prepared directly in your kitchen!
Preparation:
To cook:
Level: Easy
Serves: 10
Ingredients
- ¼ cups Canola oil
- ½ cups popcorn kernels
- ⅓ cups Granulated sugar
- Salt to taste
Preparation
Lay out 2 lengths of parchment paper on your counter or on a large baking sheet. Cut another length long enough to fit between the pan and the lid.
In a bowl, combine the grains and sugar.
Pour the oil into a nonstick skillet. Add 2-3 kernels to the skillet, turn the heat to medium or medium-high (depending on your cooker) and cover with the parchment paper and lid. When the first stone bursts, add the mixture of sugar and stones and cover again with parchment paper and then the lid.
Shake the pan vigorously for about 3 seconds, then cook for about 10 seconds. Repeat the cycle until you no longer hear the kernels popping. Immediately remove the pan from the heat.
Using a large spoon or spatula, spoon the hot popcorn onto the lengths of parchment paper, spreading it as close as possible in a single layer. Don’t touch the hot popcorn or you could be badly burned!
Once cool enough to touch, sprinkle with salt to taste and toss.
Note: You will need two lengths of parchment paper to spread the baked popcorn on as it cools. You will also need a length to fit between the pan and the lid to make cleaning easier.
