This delicious, easy ham salad is made with finely chopped ham, sweet onions, celery, pickles, dill, mayonnaise and a little mustard. This recipe is perfect for using up leftover holiday hams. It is best with a good quality piece of ham that has been cured and preferably smoked. A smoked ham contains less moisture and this is the key to a good ham salad.
- 1-¼ pound Smoked ham
- ⅔ cups Finely chopped onion
- 1-¼ cup Minced bread and pickles with butter
- 2 tablespoons Dijon Mustard
- ⅔ cups Grated celery
- ¾ cups Mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp pickle juice
- 1 tbsp Dried dill
- 6 Delicious sweet rolls (optional)
- 2 tablespoons Melted butter (optional)
Cut ham into small sections and process in food processor 6 to 7 times or until desired consistency.
Place the ham in a large bowl. Add onion, pickles, mustard, celery, mayonnaise, pickle juice and dill. Stir until combined.
To serve, brush the buns with butter. Toast under the broiler until lightly browned. Split ham salad between rolls.
